Very expensive

$45??? You've got to be kidding bought it a couple years ago for under $6... It's a great product but the price is keeping me from buying it.

First off I will say this. This soap is cheap, it’s designed to get the job done. The scent smells like a citronella candle. But it’s very very light. Don’t let that turn you off cause it’s a great soap. It likes water. But you must let hot water bloom the soap for 5 mins before you load your brush. It creates a very very dense lather! Comfortable to shave with and the smell doesn’t knock you off your feet or leave you bathroom smelling like a citronella candle. When you whip it up in a bowl it looks like clouds are coming out of the brush. This soap loves boar brushes being it’s so hard. Give it a try I won’t break the bank.

After reading several reviews on various sites I was skeptical but decided to go ahead and try it out because it was cheap, its a no frills shave soap and smells like ivory soap. After about 3 shaves with it I started to really enjoy using it, the key is getting the water to soap ratio down to produce a good lather. Warm to hot water seems to work better than straight cold, I really enjoy the post shave feel...face isnt dried out and the soap seems to have a mild cooling effect to the skin plus the odor is neutral when applying it to your face and not overwhelming. Ive used several expensive shave soaps and williams imo is right up there with them in performance. Williams will definitely stay in my rotation.

This is an average shave soap. It lathers well on the face or mug/bowl, but one needs to work faster than other soaps. This soap is not as creamy and will begin to aerate fairly quick. It's not a bad shave soap; I bet 50+ years ago most soaps worked the same. Today there are better options. To me the biggest downside is the smell, it reminds me of institutional hand soap from grade school, many years ago.Great price, can get the job done, available at the grocery store, better options are available. Average.

I'm very pleased by this product. Some people complain about the scent, but it's really just a matter of opinion. The closest comparison is citronella or Pledge furniture polish, both of which I absolutely love. Sometimes I stick my nose in my shaving mug just to get a whiff because it makes me smile. As to its shaving qualities, I honestly can't tell any difference in performance between Williams mug and Mitchell's Wool fat soap. Williams lathers well, is nice and slick, and the lather lasts on my face until I go over it with a razor. It provides good lubrication and I get faint snatches of the scent throughout the day after using it. Considering how inexpensive it is, I'd say I found my new go to for shaving soap!

Good lather, great smell. Not the absolute best shaving soap you can get, but WAY better than the Van der Hagen crap. That stuff feels greasy, but this one almost makes me feel like I'm cleaning at the same time I'm shaving. WARNING: I have heard of some people being or becoming allergic to this. If you are highly sensitive to allergic ingredients or develop new allergies easily, I would avoid this, just in case.

I've been using good ole Williams Mug Shaving Soap since I was 15 and I've never found a product that works as well! Tried shaving foam a few times to my regret and tried a couple of other shaving soaps that just didn't work as well. Williams is a fine product with a long history and my Dad and both my Grandpas used it before I did. The secret to using it is get you a nice badger hair brush and hold the brush under extremely hot running water till the bristles are soaked, then pinch out the excess water and a few swirls over a cake of Williams in your mug and you've got tons of rich lather! If you have a lot of facial hair and live in a dry enviroment like I do you might have to relather the area around your mouth once you've done your neck and cheeks before you shave that area. And a …
