Reseña del editor No Longer Blue is the debut album on Two Good Reasons Records by Detroit/Ann Arbor americana mainstay Marianne Murphy. The ten songs, all written or co-written by Murphy, cover a wide spectrum of the genre with a touch of folk, blues, country and even pop sensibilities. Joined by her widely respected Cicle Of Friends, a collaboration of the premier midwest folk icons, including Neil Woodward (Michigan official troubadour), Gary Weisenburg, David Murphy, Barb Chiccelli and Native American songwriter-activist Robert Richmond (who also co-produced the album), Murphy's five-star vocal abilities have finally come face to face with top rate playing and support. The album includes the radio friendly "Irish Whiskey On The Side" a non-so-subtle tribute to her soulmate Jim Cerva, who himself makes several appearances on the album. Murphy, who has been likened to Allison Moorer, Emmylou Harris and Bonnie Raitt by various reviewers, is all that and more. Quite simply, we never heard a voice so sweet and suspect you will feel the same. Comparisons to Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, and Allison Moorer are inevitable, but Marianne is somehow all of those and then again, something unique and special as well. The daughter of a respected Irish musician and performer, Murphy has the unusual capability of tapping into the issues and dilemmas of day to day existence and responding with poignant, touching lyrical statements that escape the multitudes who are writing under the lure of the brass ring. While much hyperbole in record company bio's points out the long and winding road, with all its extremes; awards, successes, dissapointments and disillusions, suffice to say here that Marianne Murphy is simply the best, most down to earth singer-songwriter we have heard in a long time. Marianne is a favorite on the midwest folk circuit, performing regularly in local venues and having made appearances on WJR, WDET and in numerous press articles as well as concerts at U of M, Milford Memories, Memphis Smoke, Borders, the Ann Arbor Library, the OCC Concert Series and a host of other venues. She performs traditional Celtic music under the name Brigit's Fire, appearing as lead vocalist and guitarist. Her mainstay original music concerts include the Circle of Friends, a congregation of other top notch artists who often make cameos at her shows. Additionally, Marianne returns the favor at performances of a number of fellow artists such as Neil Woodward, Matt Watroba and The Notebenders.
